Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the International Honor Society of two year colleges. PTK and Hennepin Technical College welcomes all eligible students to join Beta Kappa Xi, which is Hennepin Tech's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to join PTK:

• Must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA at Hennepin Technical College
• Must have declared an A.A.S. or A.S. degree
• Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits toward the A.A.S. or A.S. degree

Students will receive an invitation to join PTK when all criteria are met. A one-time membership fee of $65 enrolls new members in PTK on the local, regional, and international level.

New members will receive a membership pin and certificate and will be invited to participate in our yearly induction ceremony (usually scheduled towards the end of spring semester). After induction, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA to remain in the honor society. A notation of membership will appear on a graduate’s diploma and transcript. A stole will be provided, free of charge, to wear at graduation denoting PTK membership.

Mission

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, PTK shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Phi Theta Kappa's mission is to:

• Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students
• Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship programming.

Today, PTK is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada, and Germany.

There are so many benefits available to PTK members. The four hallmarks of the society are:

• Leadership
• Fellowship
• Service
• Scholarship

These four hallmarks will help develop college students into leaders who are great scholars and mindful of the world and society in which they live. A member who actively participates in helping his or her chapter achieve these four hallmarks can make themselves even more valuable in the job market.
