OVERVIEW
As a professional photographer, you’ll be entering one of the most exciting, challenging and highly creative career fields. That’s why training at HTC can make a real difference. First, the program is designed to develop your shooting skills, with initial emphasis on building technical abilities in lighting, exposure control, composition and the operation of your digital SLR camera. Second, you’ll benefit from advanced level courses including portraiture and wedding photography, product photography, advertising photography, and photos for publication. This program will teach you every aspect of a professional photographer’s digital workflow from image capture and optimization to digital asset management and output. Photography is a career field that requires a balance between technical expertise and visual aesthetics. This is a program that prepares you for an entry level position and to be successful in the field of photography.




LABS AND CLASSROOMS

At Hennepin Tech we have over 7,200 sq. ft. of studio space with 16 ft. ceilings that can be devided into mutliple shooting bays. Bays can be combined to form larger shooting areas depending on size of project. Lighting includes the latest professional equipment that includes continuous light sources as well as studio and portable electronic flash.

Besides the main lecture classroom there is the digital classroom with Apple computers with dual book computers that run all software in either Mac or Windows OS. We also have a digital darkroom that contains Epson printers, Epson, Imacon, Hasselblad and Nikon film scanners.
SUPPLIES/TOOLS

Students beginning the professional photography program are required to have their own digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera, with interchangeable lenses and manual exposure capabilities.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Reading cut score of 77% on HTC admissions test.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment of the professional photographer is one of constant change. Photographers have to be able to control studio lighting as well as synchronize ambient and portable flash on location. It is very important that photographers have high degree of communication skills when dealing with clients.
JOB OUTLOOK

Although a highly competitive field there are always opportunities for creative, self motivated individuals. Photography is a field where passion and persistence can take you a long way.

$25,000 - $40,000 Base Salary
ADVISORY COMMITTEE/PARTNERSHIPS

Our advisory comittee is made up of working professionals in the wedding portrait industry, commercial studios and retail sellers.

There is one full-time instructor, Tim Gray, and one full-time CLA Tom Hanly. Depending on semesters we also have between 2-4 adjunct instructors.
