This program will teach you every aspect of a professional photographer’s digital workflow from image capture and optimization to digital asset management and output. Photography is a career field that requires a balance between technical expertise and visual aesthetics. This is a program that prepares you to be successful in the field of photography.
Labs and Classrooms
At Hennepin Tech we have over 7,200 square feet of studio space with 16 foot ceilings that can be divided into mutliple shooting bays. Bays can be combined to form larger shooting areas depending on size of project. Lighting includes the latest professional equipment that includes continuous light sources as well as studio and portable electronic flash.
Besides the main lecture classroom there is the digital classroom with Apple computers with dual boot computers that run all software in either Mac or Windows operating systems. We also have a digital darkroom that contains Epson printers, Epson, Imacon, Hasselblad, and Nikon film scanners.
Students beginning the professional photography program are required to have their own digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera with interchangeable lenses and manual exposure capabilities. We'd be happy to recommenda a camera based on your budget.
Besides having your own digital SLR camera, students need a Reading cut score of 77% on the Accuplacer test. If you have any questions about the admissions process, feel free to contact Enrollment Services to speak to a counselor or advisor. Appointmentes can be made by calling 952-995-1300.
The work environment of the professional photographer is one of constant change. Photographers have to be able to control studio lighting as well as synchronize ambient and portable flash on location. It is very important that photographers have great communication skills when dealing with clients.
