Course Description

This course will provide the student the student with the Federal and State laws as they pertain to pharmacy. The ethics content of this course will address the principles of ethical thought as applied within the area of pharmacy practice. It will assist in preparing the student for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.

Outline the history of pharmaceutical legislation
Explain OBRA (Ombudsman Reconciliation Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
Explain the current legislative changes which affect pharmacy practice
Interpret the regulations regarding pharmacy technicians
Demonstrate effective communication between a patient and a pharmacy technician
Describe the pharmaceutical ethical code
Apply ethical concepts to pharmacy situations
