STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT FOR DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM
Students in the Dental Assistant program at Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie now benefit from using state-of-the-art digital radiography equipment, as well as a total electronic clinic that utilizes hands-on EagleSoft dental software within each patient treatment area. The Federal EMR (Electronic Medical Records) Mandate 2014/2015 requires that all healthcare organizations and their related business associates be equipped with this technology by 2014/2015.
“More than half of the dental facilities where our students have externships use digital imaging and electronic record-keeping,” said Dental Assistant Program Director Susan Thaemert, who has taught at HTC since 1979. “By providing state-of-the-art equipment, we’re preparing our students to succeed on the job.” As dental procedures have changed, Thaemert noted, so has the training at HTC.
An advisory committee comprised of leaders in the dental community regularly reviews the program to ensure the college offers the most up-to-date teaching and preparation in classrooms, labs, and clinics.
Students in the Dental Assistant program complete one semester of prerequisite coursework, two semesters of study on campus, followed by a 10-week externship in multiple dental clinics.
