TRIO: Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a FREE college preparatory program funded by the U.S. Department of Education with Hennepin Technical College sponsorship. The program encourages students in grades *7-12 to complete high school and gain admission to post-secondary programs. ETS serves as a FREE planning resource for students who are interested in continuing their education and is designed to help low-income and first-generation potential college students prepare for and succeed in higher education. *7th and 8th graders at Brooklyn Center High School and Robbinsdale Middle School.

We serve participants from the following schools:


Upcoming events:         

  • August 28th at Robbinsdale Cooper High School - The Great Cooper Get Together 2pm- 8pm.
  • The Great Cooper Get Together for 9-12th grade at Robbinsdale Cooper- ETS staff will be at Cooper to welcome back students and greet parents to talk about upcoming events.
  • August 29th 6:00-7:30 pm. Robbinsdale Middle School
  • Welcome Back Night at RMS for all 7th and 8th graders.
  • ETS staff will be at RMS at a table to welcome new ETS students to the program. We also will have our drawing for our gift cards for area restaurants.
  • August 30th Robbinsdale Middle School – Welcome 6th graders to RMS 6-8PM
  • ETS staff will be at RMS to tell students and families about our TRIO Educational Talent Search Program and the benefits of being in the program.
  • Week of September 10-12 Welcome Back Assembly for ETS students at Cooper and RMS
  • October 11th  Guthrie to see Frankenstein at 10:30 am RMS and Cooper mentoring event
  • October 17th – MN History Theatre to see The Great Society -
  • October 24 and October 25th – National College Fair – Minneapolis Convention Center - ETS juniors and seniors to visit with admission reps from all over the nation.
  • November 8th TRIO First Generation Day at Hennepin Technical


Some of our past events:

  • ETS students from RMS were LIVE on the air at KMOJ radio.
  • ETS students from RMS toured Appetite for Change and Breaking Bread restaurant over spring break.
  • ETS students from Cooper visited St Cloud State University over school break.
  • ETS students who attended our ETS summer program enjoyed team building by working together to try to break out of an escape room, they visited Wisconsin Stout and Wisconsin La Crosse and stayed in the dorms, and enjoyed going behind the scenes to find out how the rides work at Valleyfair.
