Early Middle College

The Early Middle College Program at Hennepin Technical College allows students who are currently enrolled in a partnered Alternative Learning Center the opportunity to earn college credit towards a high school diploma and a Hennepin Tech Certificate, Diploma, or Associate’s degree.

Pathways

Choose a major and our Early Middle College Resource Specialist and high school staff will help develop your schedule so every class you take will bring you closer to earning your high school diploma and your college degree.

When you finish high school you are eligible to apply to Hennepin Technical College and finish your degree pathway.

Course Information:

  • Early Middle College students are able to register for any courses that they meet the prerequisite for, including developmental courses.
  • There are certain courses/programs with restrictions for PSEO/Early Middle College Students:
    • Culinary Arts: Student must be 16 years old
    • Dental Assistant: Student must have a high school diploma or GED prior to starting first semester of program (can take pre-reqs)
    • Emergency Medical Services: EMSV 1100 (EMT Basic) Student must be 18 years old, and required vaccinations
    • Ford ASSET: Student must be 18 in order to do their internship at the dealership with a valid driver's license
    • Law Enforcement: Not available to PSEO/Early Middle College students
    • Medium/Heavy Truck Technology: Student must be 18 and eligible to obtain a commercial driver's license
    • Nursing Assistant (NURS 1001): Student must be 16 years old

Hennepin Technical College is currently approved to partner with Bloomington HTC by Choice, Brooklyn Center Early College Academy, Hennepin Gateway to College, Osseo Area Learning Center, Robbinsdale Academy-Highview Alternative Learning Center, and Wayzata Alternative Learning Center.

Eligibility

To be eligible, students must:

  1. Currently attend one of the approved ALC partnership schools
  2. Contact Sable Gjesvold, Resource Specialist, to set up a meeting
  3. Take the Accuplacer test achieving a score of 38 or higher on the reading portion.
