Audio Production program overview

The sweet sound of success begins here with training as an audio production specialist in HTCs state-of-the-art facilities. You will learn from HTC's highly qualified instructors how to record and mix music, narration and sound effects for music and commercial productions, video, television, film post-production, and audio-visual projects. You will be ready to produce on the job because you will be training on up-to-date equipment used by industry leaders. Prepare for mastering and duplication to multiple audio formats, including emerging media. Understand acoustics and studio design, as well as location recording and sound design skills. You will be ready to succeed as a member of a professional production team.

Skills required

1st semester requirements into the Audio Production Program include:

  • Admission to Hennepin Tech
  • Concurrent enrollment in ARSP 1100, ARSP 1110, and ARSP 1130
  • 78+ on Reading Placement Test or ENGL0921
  • Please contact an advisor or counselor with any questions you may have

The Audio Production department's advisory committee is comprised of industry professionals throughout the audio field's various disciplines. The committee is essential in gathering insight into industry trends and the alignment of curriculum with what students need to be prepared for the competitive audio industry.

Hennepin Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2003, HTC became a member of the HLC Academic Quality Improvement Program.

The Audio Production department has a 2+2 articulation with Minnesota State University Mankato to offer a B.S. Degree in Music Industry-Audio Production Specialist. The student will be able to obtain the A.A.S. Degree in Audio Production from Hennepin Technical College and B.S. Degree from MSU-Mankato. This options enables the student to gain the hands-on technical aspect from Hennepin Technical College along with the music business and theory training that MSU-Mankato can offer.
