Plastics are everywhere! The toothbrush you'll use today, cell phones, computers, CDs and DVDs, and medical device applications to prolong life on earth. Plastics make possible virtually every product we use to make our lives easier, safer, and better. Plastics are lightweight, durable,and versatile. Bioplastics and new product developments are also becoming high in demand for the future. And many Plastics are being recycled every day.

HTC's Diploma in Plastics Manufacturing Technology is about both science and technology. Prepared students will understand the knowledge and skills in plastics material composition and behavior, apply the "four plastics variables" used in problem solving, setup and operate molding processes and automation equipment, and practice quality principals used in the Plastics manufacturing industry.
For the plastics industry to grow and prosper, it will depend upon competent technicians whose education focuses on this discipline. The program will be offered on campus to capitalize on HTC's extensively equipped laboratory facilities.
The curriculum strives to produce a specialization in Plastics Manufacturing Technology and provides an appropriate mixture of theoretical and practical instruction. Plastics Manufacturing Technician graduates are well-positioned for advancement as well as long-term employment.

Here is a sampling of the opportunities available and what you can expect.
(Many of the entry-level jobs in Plastics are great training grounds. Once you have some experience, you can go on to more skilled, higher paying positions.)
Machine Operators are high school graduates with less than two years of work experience. They operate machines that make the plastics we need and use every day.
Material Handlers make sure the raw materials needed for daily production are in the proper areas and available to the production department. They also mix, blend and color the raw materials.
Plastics Technicians identify problems with the equipment used to make plastics and adjust the machines so they are running properly and efficiently. They correct, as well as improve, the manufacturing process. They are sometimes called set-up technicians or trouble-shooters.
Plastics Maintenance/Mechanics assemble and install plastics processing systems and components as well as troubleshoot and maintain Plastics processing systems used in every facet of the industry.
Plastics Engineers help design plastics products and invent better ways to use plastics, as well as conduct research on new concepts, applications, and improvements of existing processes and systems.
Plastics Sales and Marketing Personnel sell and market plastics processes and components, working closely with manufacturers and distributors.
Plastics Management Personnel plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise plastics businesses including production, personnel, finance, purchasing, research, customer service, quality control, and sales.
