Child Development Careers Mission
The mission of our program is as follows:
“The Child Development Program at Hennepin
Technical College utilizes a learner centered approach to provide our
diverse student population with the knowledge and skills to become
professional leaders in the ever-changing early childhood field. “
The program seeks to implement its mission by
providing:

A safe, accessible, and effective teaching and
learning environment that supports sensitivity to diverse
individuals and groups.

Knowledge and skills in child growth and
development

Knowledge and skills for observing,
documenting, and assessing children

Knowledge and skills to plan, facilitate, and
assess developmentally appropriate curricula for children

Knowledge in developing and sustaining
relationships with children, families and communities that embrace
culturally relevant and diverse perspectives

Knowledge and ability to recognize and access
resources that support children and families

Knowledge and skills of professional standards
of behavior, including ethics, advocacy, continuous lifelong
learning

Knowledge and skills in communication,
teamwork, and conflict resolution

Opportunities to reflect on past and current
practices in order to improve
