Fluid Power Engineering Award Outcomes 

  1. Recognize the various hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and electronic components that are utilized in the Fluid Power Industry.
  2. Apply engineering concepts as they relate to the various components and applications of fluid power engineering technology.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, by utilizing data and concepts learned while following fluid power best-practices and safety methods.
  4. Apply AC and DC electrical concepts as they relate to the installation and troubleshooting of N.E.M.A. and I.E.C. industrial electrical equipment while following NFPA codes and standards.
  5. Design, specify and analyze hydraulic and pneumatic systems that are employed in the fluid power industry in accordance with NFPA and ISO standards and practices for proper selection, application and overall efficiency.
  6. Utilize various fluid power calculations as they relate to the design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to include; sizing of components and conductors, fluid viscosity and velocities, pressure differential, system efficiencies, cost and safety considerations.
  7. Develop engineering blueprints using CAD software while adapting engineering principles and processes employing ANSI, NFPA and ISO symbols and standards as they relate to the design, fabrication and testing of fluid power products and systems.
  8. Develop, download and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controller (PLC’s) programs that meet industry standards while using various PLC’s, computers and associated software and hardware including analog, digital, HMI and PWM.
  9. Integrate, instrument and network PLC’s, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, electronics, mechanical and servo/proportional systems as they relate to; automation, robotics, mobile and industrial fluid power and motion control industries.
  10. Collaborate with team members and others to design, develop and fabricate a cap stone project that utilizes the engineering portfolio concept.
