Green Home Initiative - Eden Prairie
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy Efficiency and
Environmental Design; this is a national program promoting high
standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. The Minnetonka LEED
house has been designed by the HTC Architectural Drafting program,
landscaping design by HTC Landscaping program, Cabinetry built and
installed by the HTC Cabinetmaking program and structure built by HTC
carpentry program.
Carpentry students have completed the floor, wall and roof systems,
installed doors and windows, completed cornice, insulated insulation
and drywall during 1st semester.
During second semester carpentry students will install hardwood floors,
hang interior doors, apply door, window trim and base. In early spring,
they will complete a deck, open porch, screen porch and install the
siding.
At HTC we believe that focusing on energy efficiency, sustainable
building materials, building healthy, comfortable and durable homes will
prepare our students for new jobs in the emerging "green" economy.
