Please note that receiving an I-20 from HTC does not guarantee visa approval from the U.S. Embassy.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
This section will explain each step in the application process. Please read all the instructions before, during, and after completing each step in order to make sure everything is done correctly.
1. International Student Application Form (included as a link): Fill out the entire form with the correct and complete information in each space. The information asked for in this application is needed before HTC can accept you to the college and issue you an I-20 Form. Please print legibly and do not use cursive writing or abbreviations.
2. $20 (U.S. Dollars) Application Fee: This $20 fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee that is used to cover administrative and processing costs. Every applicant must pay the fee when he/she applies to HTC.
3. Original Academic Records: All international applicants must have a high school diploma, and must obtain an official academic record from the high school which they attended. The record should list the subjects studied along with the grade, mark, or other evidence that each subject was completed satisfactorily. A cumulative grade average of C or higher is required for consideration for admission to HTC. Photo copies of the record are not acceptable. The record must be certified by the school authorities. HTC reserves the right to determine the validity of the certification. If the academic record is not in English, a certified literal translation must accompany the record.
NOTE: It is advisable that you obtain TWO official academic records, as the U.S. Embassy in your home country may also require one before issuing you a student visa.
4. Proof of English Proficiency: Most applicants must show proof of English proficiency in order to be admitted to HTC. The most common form of proof is the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL must be passed with a minimum score of 500 using the paper format, or 173 using the computer-based format. Applicants from English-speaking and some Anglophone countries are NOT required to show this proof. Please see below for a list of these countries, as well as a list of other acceptable means of proving English proficiency. HTC cannot change this policy for any student, due to U.S. government regulations for international students.

Notarized Statement of Financial Guarantee: International applicants must provide official documentation proving sponsorship and sufficient funding for all educational and living expenses that will be incurred during their enrollment at HTC. Please see the last for a chart showing the various page expenses and approximate costs. This guarantee can be shown in one of two ways:
a) A notarized Affidavit of Support from the sponsor AND an official bank statement from the sponsor’s bank. The account must show a minimum of $17,300 (U.S. Dollars) to pay for all expenses during the first year at HTC, and must be dated within the last 6 months. Photo copies are not acceptable.
OR
b) The Financial Certificate included in this packet, signed, dated, and notarized AND an official bank statement from the sponsor’s bank. The account must show a minimum of $17,300 (U.S. Dollars) to pay for all expenses during the first year at HTC, and must be dated within the last 6 months. Photo copies are not acceptable.
NOTE: If any of the documents in this Statement of Financial Guarantee are not in English, they must be accompanied by a certified, literal translation.
6. Immunization Verification Form (included in the application form): The State Legislature requires that all students attending educational institutions in Minnesota verify immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria, and Tetanus (DPT). The Immunization Verification Form included in this packet must be filled out accurately; stating the month and year you received each immunization. If it has been more than 10 years since you received the DPT shot, you will need to get an updated shot. If you have not had these specific immunizations, you will need to get them before beginning your study at HTC.
7. Copy of Birth Certificate: HTC requires a photo copy of the applicant’s birth certificate, showing the full name, date of birth, country and city of birth.
FINALLY:
HTC is not responsible for applicants missing the application deadline due to incomplete or unsatisfactory application materials. Each applicant is responsible for ensuring that all materials are correct and complete before sending them. If the materials are incomplete, HTC will notify the applicant and the admission process will be held until the situation is corrected by the applicant. In this case, the applicant may be required to wait until the next semester to come to the United States and begin coursework.
Please make sure you have read and understood all aspects of the international application process. If you have any questions, contact the International Student Advisor at the campus location you wish to attend.

Please remember that as an International Student holding F-1 visa status, you must register for a MINIMUM of 12 credits every semester, up to the final semester of your program. This is the first and foremost rule pertaining to international students.
International students are required to purchase the medical insurance offered by HTC at the beginning of every school year, before they will be allowed to register. The cost of the insurance varies from year to year, but students should be prepared to pay around $900 for each year's worth of insurance coverage.
It is against the law for F-1 visa holders to work at a job without prior authorization from the Immigration Department.
It is up to each student to maintain good status as an International Student while studying at Hennepin Technical College. HTC cannot be responsible for any mishaps regarding the breeching of student status or immigration regulations.
