POLICY STATEMENT

The World Wide Web offers students and employees the ability to disseminate ideas and images to colleagues around the world. Hennepin Technical College has official web pages, e.g., electronic home pages, publication pages, and other pages that carry out official business. These pages are subject to institutional oversight and control. Individual employees or students may create unofficial (personal) web pages for use in academic and related activities. Appearance and content of all pages must be consistent with Hennepin Technical College policies and state and federal laws. Web pages may not be used for personal commercial activities, except as otherwise permitted by Hennepin Technical College policy.

IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURE

Style and Format Guides: Style and format guides which set criteria for acceptable design, content, links, and usage, as established by Hennepin Technical College, are to be followed for all official web pages, as well as for employee or student web pages.

Official College Web Pages: Official pages are those that represent the college. These pages are created and maintained by administrative units to disseminate information about the college, its programs, and its resources. The official college web pages are presented in a well designed, visually appealing, structurally consistent and integrated Web environment. The Web Style/Design Guidelines adhere to the college’s graphic standards. Consistent graphic imagery and navigation tools allow users to easily recognize when they are at the Hennepin Technical College Web site and not another institution’s or individual’s site.

Unofficial (personal) Web Pages: Unofficial (personal) web pages are not Hennepin Technical College publications and do not represent the views of Hennepin Technical College. Hennepin Technical College cannot and does not intend to edit and review unofficial web pages and cannot accept any responsibility for the contents of these web pages. Any unofficial web page must have the following disclaimer:

The views and opinions expressed in this page are strictly those of the page author. The contents of this page have not been reviewed or approved by Hennepin Technical College.

The graphic identity and logo of Hennepin Technical College should not be used on unofficial pages of employees or students to avoid any implication that Hennepin Technical College approves or assumes responsibility for page contents or links to external sites.

Hennepin Technical College reserves the right to remove an unofficial web page from a Hennepin Technical College server if, in the opinion of Hennepin Technical College, the web page would subject Hennepin Technical College to a claim by a third party.

Sanctions for misconduct: Hennepin Technical College will take all violations to the web page policy seriously. Students may be subject to any appropriate sanction provided under the college student conduct code. Employees will be subject to appropriate discipline under the collective bargaining agreement or compensation plan. In addition to sanctions under appropriate policies and contracts, anyone who violates

Hennepin Technical College guidelines may be subject to any or all of the following sanctions, depending on the nature and the seriousness of the violation:

  • Fines to replace or restore damage to hardware or software and/or to compensate staff required to carry out repair
  • Loss of computer, network system and web page access
  • Civil proceedings
  • Criminal prosecution

Hennepin Technical College will report any violation to the proper authorities including, but not limited to local and state police, the State Attorney General’s Office, and/or federal law enforcement (FBI or Secret Service).

Hennepin Technical College has the right to suspend the accounts and inspect files and data of any person suspected of misconduct pending the outcome of an investigation. Data and files may be turned over to the appropriate authorities.
