Transfer of Credit
Transfer Information
Any college level course will be considered for transfer. Transfer students with prior coursework at another accredited college, university or vocational school should provide transcripts for transfer evaluation. Additional documentation may be requested.
Courses with a content match to the required HTC course can be transferred and used to satisfy specific course requirements in an A.S. degree A.A.S. degree, diploma, and/or certificate program. Consideration for advanced status may be given to students who have already earned a degree or have completed the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC).
MinnesotaTransfer Curriculum
Minnesota Transfer Curriculum guidelines will be used to categorize transferred General Education courses into one of ten Minnesota Transfer, Minnesota Transfer Curriculum goal areas. Credit for coursework that does not fit into any goal area will not be granted.
Do I need a certain grade to transfer a course?
HTC accepts credits with grades of "D" earned as part of completion of the MnTC and/or as part of a degree awarded from a Minnesota College or University. Those credits will count toward the total needed to graduate. However, certain majors do not allow the use of transfer courses with "D” grades as prerequisites.
Guidelines
Courses approved for transfer must be comparable in nature, content, and level and match at least 75 percent of the content and goals of the course for which the student is seeking equivalent credit. Technical courses must have been completed within the past five years to be considered for transfer. (Nursing students should consult with the Transfer Specialist regarding specific program transfer requirements.) Students with an overall cumulative GPA of under 2.0 at the transfer college will not have the option of transferring technical courses with a “D” grade. Transfer grades are not calculated in a student’s GPA.
Other Credit Options
If you have earned college credit at other institutions or through alternative means such as AP, IB, CLEP, military education or prior learning, you may send transcripts or other appropriate documents to the Transfer Center for evaluation.
How many credits can I transfer?
The number of credits transferred to Hennepin Technical College is dependent upon the specific requirements of each program or degree offered at HTC.

Transferring Out of Hennepin Technical College
Credit courses in majors at Hennepin Technical College are intended to provide employment skills and, in some situations, transfer to other colleges. The number of credits that may be transferred is determined by the receiving institution.
HTC has Articulation Agreements with other colleges. These Articulation Agreements are formal agreements between two or more colleges and universities to accept credits in transfer toward a specific academic program. Articulation Agreements are generally for specialized professional or technical programs offered at colleges (e.g., Associate of Science (A.S.), Associate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.), Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), diplomas, certificates) that can be applied to a specific program/major at the receiving university. Articulation Agreements are provided in a searchable database for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the University of Minnesota, and other colleges and universities for specialized professional or technical programs (e.g., A.S., A.F.A., A.A.S., diplomas, and certificates). These agreements specify which courses taken at a sending college can be applied to program/major goals at the receiving college or university.
