Veterans Benefits

HTC accepts the GI Bill and other Veteran educational assistance programs. In order to be eligible to receive benefits you must declare a major (“General Education” is not an accepted major) and contact the school certifying official in the Financial Aid Office for necessary paperwork. The certifying official for Eden Prairie based majors can be reached at 952-995-1471. The certifying official for Brooklyn Park based majors can be reached at 763-488-2491. If you have questions or concerns while at HTC, please contact your certifying official for direction finding the appropriate department for assistance.

Please be aware it is taking the VA up to 12 weeks to process a claim at this time.

New Student Veterans at HTC
For the first time receiving benefits, you will need to meet with the certifying official to complete the application and other necessary forms. You will need to bring a copy of your DD-214 or your NOBE with you. If you are planning to transfer any credits into HTC you will also need to provide a copy of your transcript(s) and set up a meeting with the HTC Transfer Specialist at 952-995-1455. You will also need to send an official transcript to HTC.

Please remember:

You MUST notify your campus certifying official when you register or change your schedule.

Chapter 30 (Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty) and Chapter 1606 (Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve) student veterans must do monthly verification of enrollment before the VA will release payment.

Current Student Veterans
When you register each semester, you must notify your certifying official in the Financial Aid Office in order to maintain your eligibility for VA educational benefits.

If you withdraw or change your enrollment, it is required that you report such action promptly to your certifying official.

If you decide to change your declared major, you need to meet with your certifying official and complete the required VA form to continue the processing of your educational benefits.

Activation procedures - If you get called to active duty in the middle of the semester, you must present your order to active duty and complete the HTC add/drop form with your certifying official. They will then have the Registrar cancel your enrollment and initiate the full tuition refund process.

Please remember:

Chapter 30 (Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty) and Chapter 1606 (Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve) student veterans must do monthly verification of enrollment before the VA will release payment.

VocRehab and Tuition Assistance
