  • Virus Protection software (highly recommended)
3. Hardware

(Note: These are minimum requirements. We recommend you exceed these requirements for a better experience. It is recommended that the computer you use for your online classes is for your private use. This will help decrease technical issues.) For the IBM or Compatible Computer
  • 350Mhz Intel Pentium II processor or equivalent
  • 64MB of RAM if using Windows 98 or earlier, 256MB or more of RAM if using Windows 2000 or XP
  • 56Kbps modem

  • Sound card and speakers
  • Printer - Students who wish to print online resources will need a printer with this capability.
Apple Macintosh

  • Mac OS 9.2.2 or later
  • 64 MB RAM
  • Hard Drive disk space. (This requirement will vary depending on which class you are enrolled in. The disk space is for downloading articles and
  • installing required plug-in software.)
  • 24x CD-ROM Drive (Some classes may provide supplemental materials via CD's)
  • Sound card and speakers
  • Printer - Students who wish to print online resources will need a printer with this capability.

Other Issues:
  • You should make sure you conduct a System Check. The D2L log in page has a system check or click this link: System Check
  • Just because your computer gets a clean bill of health from the System Check does not mean you're guaranteed not to have problems.
  • AOL's browser is inconsistent and might cause problems. But, starting IE after connecting through AOL usually works.
  • Popup blocks could conceivably interfere with hints in a D2L quiz.
  • Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) cause problems. These are tough to track down, but often involve their cache and security policies.
The solution when unexpected problems come up is to try the course on one of our campus computers. If it works in our student general access labs but not on your home computer, the problem is with the home computer configuration.
