Award Description: The Emergency Management: Homeland Security Associates of Applied Science Degree includes courses in emergency preparedness, management and planning, mitigation, hazardous materials, government continuity, management, volunteer resource development, leadership and decision making, public information, communications and terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. The curriculum meets the requirements of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The college expects to offer these courses to accommodate students who are looking for careers in private sector safety and planning positions, public emergency management and those who are currently employed and wish to update their skills and apply for emergency management certification by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. 
Career Opportunities: The AAS Degree will provide the student the necessary knowledge and experience to handle job duties in the insurance industry, construction planning, industrial safety groups, consulting firms, along with the public safety sector opportunities.
