Award Description: A Floral Designer is a person who has trained in only the beginning levels of floral shop operations. This training is necessary for those individuals who wish to work as an entry-level designer. Skill development includes training in basic design, flower shop operations and overview, as well as basic funeral design training. Other duties may include caring for foliage and flowering plants and processing cut flowers and foliages. To be a Floral Designer a person must have special personal qualities. Some of these qualities include the ability to work well with others, the desire to be part of a team, manual dexterity, good communication skills and the willingness and ability to take directions. 
Career Opportunities: Trained Floral Designers are employed by full-service florists, mass market florists and wholesale florist suppliers. Many full-service flower shops in Minnesota that are owned or managed by former students of the Retail Floral program hire basic floral designers from the Retail Floral program.
