Foundation Dinner and Auction Brings in over $92,000
The theme “Build a Better World with Hennepin Technical College” set the stage for another successful celebration and fundraising gala. The event provided college supporters an opportunity to help students pursue their dreams. It was an evening of good food, classy entertainment, and outstanding fellowship. Over 275 guests and volunteers from the college and community helped make the evening a huge success. And most of all, it was an evening for raising money – over $92,000 - to benefit students.

The evening’s program featured Alex Jackson, Minneapolis Fire Chief, HTC graduate and stand-up comedian. Vincent Ijioma and Ruby Vuong, graduates of the Electronics program shared their experiences at the college. Vincent and Ruby represent the many students who get turned on to technical careers and hands-on education. Their messages were both amusing and inspiring. Vincent and Ruby both received scholarships from funds raised at past events. They exemplify how the Foundation is achieving their vision: building a better world, one student’s dream at a time.
Over 300 auction items made for lively, competitive bidding. Items provided by college programs and employees were especially popular showing the guests that the event was truly a college-wide effort. Faculty, staff, students, and community volunteers helped make the evening a success.

Love in Bloom
HTC’s Floral Design program combined two ideas into one great event by hosting its second floral design show and alumni reunion on March 5 at the Brooklyn Park Campus. Three hundred guests attended the wedding-themed event that featured light refreshments complete with wedding cake.
Floral students, graduates and industry professionals were invited to create a floral design to enter into the design competitions. Winning designs were selected by those in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was the Floral Design Show that featured four designers showcasing their wedding designs. Volunteers dressed in wedding finery presented the designs to the audience. A big thank you to the floral vendors and wholesalers who donated many of the materials needed for the floral designs and door prizes.
Proceeds from the sale of the floral designs featured in the show will be used to support scholarships for Floral Design students.
Next year’s floral design show and alumni reunion is being planned for sometime in late February or early March 2010.
